Been a long time since I last checked the comments. So glad I did. Where else would I find a spirited conversation on the deadlift? This made my day.

11:40 - Rx (Happy with this. Didn't go out hot, but back blew up on 4th round and really slowed down my deadlifts. Jerks were heavy for me, so had to really push under the bar to get it overhead. Last time I did this was 2014 with a 15min cap at 95lb and was 1 jerk from finishing.)

Bad air quality again so did: 6 power jerks at 95-125-155, then 155 power clean plus fs plus jerk. Then 1 clean and jerk (squat) at:

175-190-185-195-190-200- then 1 c&j emom for 5m at 200. Along with some overhead mobility work…everything felt good except burning in the lungs from the smoke.

I’m sure I’ve done DT more recently than 2015 but don’t have access to my computer right now. If prescribed as heavy, I’d just laugh and do at a manageable weight, though I’d do a double DT.

Peace to DT’s family, friends and teammates as we commemorate his service and sacrifice today.

Globo wod: If you have a bar and bumper plates you're good to go. Just hog an area or platform and get at it. If you are using iron plates today use a weight you can touch and go. Dumbbells sub 60/40lb dumbbells. If using 50/35lb dumbbells due to availability add an additional round.

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

On this occasion, I wonder whether the thought behind doing DT today was, "let's do a single modality with weightlifting, medium(ish) duration and medium(ish) weight," and DT just happened to fall in that category, or if it was, "it's about that time to do a Hero workout, DT fills some holes in the recent cycles." The way you would scale this - or if you'd scale this at all - would depend on which you think it was. Also important to know when this was originally released, because 155 was a lot heavier to this community back in 2009 (I think? Mel, you got me on that?) than it is now.

WORKOUT THEMES

Weighlifting. Breaking down one movement into separate parts. A commemorative/honorary workout. Core to extremity, range of motion, power output, and functional movement are also themes.

SHORT MEDIUM LONG

LIGHT

MEDIUM

x

HEAVY

TECHNIQUE SCALE

Pick two of the movements and make your own AMRAP in 15 minutes.

CONSISTENCY SCALE

1 round of:

60 deadlifts

45 hang power cleans

30 push jerks (or push press, if you want to take some technique out of it)

INTENSITY SCALE

Lower the weight so the first 2 and last 2 rounds are unbroken.

MY STUFF

Consistency scale, 75 lbs.

Anyone reading this lacking the benefit of proper coaching should be aware that you can tie your back into knots doing it wrong by being forward onto your toes. That happened to me until a coach said "stay on your heals". Fixed, instantly. Now I'm happily at 2x bodyweight, and it feels easy. All those deadlifts in the open were a breeze.
