Been a long time since I last checked the comments. So glad I did. Where else would I find a spirited conversation on the deadlift? This made my day.

I try this movement but if you don't do it properly, it can ruin your back.

Anyone reading this lacking the benefit of proper coaching should be aware that you can tie your back into knots doing it wrong by being forward onto your toes. That happened to me until a coach said "stay on your heals". Fixed, instantly. Now I'm happily at 2x bodyweight, and it feels easy. All those deadlifts in the open were a breeze.

Afterward I did 5 sets of bent over barbell rows with 155 -5-5-5-5-8f), then 10 strict pull-ups.

The hardest part of the hex bar is hand placement, so the bar doesn't swivel on you. Do that at the lighter weight, and 340 will be yours.

14 alternating dumbbell shoulder presses | 9,5 kg DB

SCORE TODAY: 13' 29

SCORE 201230: 17' 59''

Not enough weight in garage to max out on deadlifts. So I did a death by deadlift with 205lbs.

Completed 12 rounds + 10 reps

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

I still say Bama was better last year than this year. Tua > Jones. Jeudy > Metchie. 2019 Waddle > 2018 Waddle. 2019 DL > 2020 DL. 2019 secondary > 2020 secondary. I would just say 2019 Najee < 2020 Najee and obviously 2019 Devonte Smith < 2020 Devonte Smith. Either way, really fun offense to watch over the last 3 years.

WHAT ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

Deadlift - squatting with less ROM and a very high demand on the midline

MAIN DECISION

Am I feeling like going for a pr today?

TECHNIQUE SCALE

Same format, just do sets of 10+ reps

CONSISTENCY SCALE

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:

15 deadlifts

1:00 plank (emphasize keeping your belly squeezed and still breathing)

INTENSITY SCALE'

7-10 rounds of:

Sprint 50 meters

3 deadlifts

Rest as needed between

MY STUFF

Did sets of 275 for 5 reps in between cleaning stuff, but focused on going really slow on the way down and fast as I could on the way up. Pretty tough, actually

GENERAL FEAR LEVEL: 3

Commented on: The Deadlift

Some people call the deadlift dangerous. Think those people will ever need to pick something up off the ground? It's dangerous NOT to train the deadlift.

Once upon a time it was called the Health Lift, true story. It was a lot harder to villainize back then, I'm guessing.

Rory McKernan. No it wasn't. Do you have a citation for that?

The only dangerous dead is the turtle-back deads. It's not only painful, but also painful to watch.

Gutsy move, Louis! I don't normally think of Rory McKernan as the type of person to go spouting off CrossFit knowledge without any backing! I hope that you enjoyed the article that Matthew shared.
