No failed reps, just got heavy while maintaining technique. Left the most on the table with OHS - current PR is 255

Needed an active recovery day and short on time, so I scaled the weight way down and focused on technique in the squat clean.

4 rds of 8-15 rep at 75#.

Threw in several reps of OHS too for posterity, then focused stretching.

Dang, today was not a good day. After using 225 in awful annie and then the 205 and 155 bar in the 10 rep chipper, this frustrates me. It is definitely a lack of sleep and lack of rest (my current job is physically demanding all day.) and probably not eating enough as well. I even backed off during yesterdays workout, pacing it out slower than I should have. Better luck next time for me.

*need a better set-up to practice OH Squats. My rack is in the basement w/no overhead clearance. I'd like to practice off a rack instead of off the ground every time. I could get my hands wider on the bar. Maybe some 2xs in buckets of concrete would work.

Small guy, small weights

Clean 145

OHS 90

Dumbbell chest presses TO FAIL: 58lbs dumbbells x 9 presses

Notes:

Clean - I've done 150-155 before, so this was a disappointment. 3 fails at 150.

OHS - vastly improved technique from working with small bars; but then, lacked scapular strength when the bar got heavy. Failed at 95.

Presses - no rack, so I tried max reps with dumbbells. Attempted 63lbs but couldn't get them on the bench. Maybe get a spotter; or -hey!- get a rack!!

Just wasn’t feeling the cleans today. I caught a serious case of the tips on 205 and failed 4 times. Finished at 195, which is 25# short of my PR.

Bench presses felt much better though. Scored a 5# PR.

Due to my setup at home, I have to do OHS outside on a slightly sloped driveway which compromises my form. I don’t feel safe going heavy, and since I did 75 OHS the other day, I felt OK skipping it today.

I'm sure you ALL can relate to my inner conversation this morning-

during the pwr clns--While debateing putting 185 or 190 on the bar.."I think I may have two more attempts in me, but what if I don't? I'm feeling ok, I think I'll go for 185, then 190." Got the 185 and thought, damn, should have put on 190! because I then proceeded to fail on the 190 attempt.

So you have to do mobility exercises. Do it before or after the training. It helped me so much.

Good morning dear all

I hope you are doing well.

I have a little doubt. I know that can be obvious. But Could anyone please clarifying to me?

We have to do: Clean, 1 rep, Bench press, 1 rep and Overhead squat, 1 rep in sequency until broken each other or to do until broken separately?

Thanks in advance

Separately. Build up to a 1RM clean, then build up to a 1RM bench press, then build up to a 1RM OHS. Basically, spend 20-30 minutes on each movement.

Hi Erik,

Ok, copy that.

I waited just around 2min. so this because I did not have time. So this I did not perform very much so this I felt like so much to give.

Thanks for the clarification, I will try like that next time.

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

Usually the more you have in a session the less quality those things will be. Sometimes it is okay for that if movement quality is not the main focus of the day and sometimes it's best to disregard some parts of a workout to focus on one or two things. If you have the technique for all 3 lifts and the fitness capacity to go heavy - especially limiting your attempts - then have at it. Otherwise might be a good idea to pick one (maybe two) and lock in. Also, anyone else praying LeBron loses tonight?

WHAT ABOUT THE MOVEMENTS

Clean - jumping with a very heavy weight through a large range of motion

Bench press - pushing at midrange with a ton of weight and a ton of extra points of support (which takes demand off the midline)

OHS - squatting with an upright torso and a ton of weight

WHAT ABOUT THE FORMAT

The way to read this is like a normal max effort - meaning you do a set then rest as needed - but it's more strict on the number of sets. After a warmup you get 3 attempts at a best lift; think more long jump (3 jumps total) than high jump (3 attempts per height) in track.

TECHNIQUE SCALE

Pick one lift and disregard the rep scheme. Put 30 minutes on the clock and practice sets of 8-15 in a row.

CONSISTENCY SCALE

Same lifts, do 5 sets of 1 at each lift, staying at the same weight (heavy but below your max). See if you can go 15-for-15 on lifts and pay attention to how long you are resting.

INTENSITY SCALE

As is.

MY STUFF

I ended up choosing just the overhead squat and I ended up scoring a big fat 0. My last warmup set was at 215 - which tied a pr, then I barely failed at 225, so I went up to 230 and barely failed at both of those attempts.

I always root for the Finals to be as short as possible regardless of the winner. I’m sick of the playoffs preempting Jeopardy here on the west coast.

Mike, I will never forgive LeBron for what he did to the Pistons in '07

Erik, I don't know what exactly preempting means but if you are inferring that you're mad a basketball game is cutting into Alex Trebek time then you might be my 8th grade teacher, Mr. McCullough in disguise.
