Scaling:
Paired with two bodyweight movements, this swim workout can be completed anywhere. If needed, reduce the reps of the push-ups and squats so you can keep moving throughout the 20 minutes.

I first started Crossfit when my brother got back from deployment and told me about this workout site him and his buddies would do when they were sent all over the place, this must have been 2009 or '10 (i tried to look up but the leaderboard doesn't even go back that far anymore). anyway we did soley mainsite wods at globo gyms and later video submitted our open scores we were hooked. Many years later I've done lots of fitness since then but last week i was feeling nostalgic and wanted the oldschool feel of the .com so i logged in to see if y'all were still there and sure enough there you all were. this was my first solid week doin mainsite wods the feeling i get doin wods with basically anonymous people from around the world knowing we are in this together is a beautiful thing, thank you community. And thank you to Crossfit for keeping the mainsite wods up! these workouts continue to be simple beautiful brutal and elegant. to paraphrase 'one of the three ways to find meaning in life, is to have the right attitude in suffering' - Viktor Frankle, Mans search for meaning.

Unbroken push-ups through round 3, then 12/8, 12/5/4/3x2




Fran lungs after 5m of this! Bad air quality here for a few weeks…also no warmup and no food today.

completed 8/28. subbed 100 yard 50lb DB farmers carry for the swim.


7 rounds + 97 yards of a farmers carry.


grip strength test. couldnt go unbroken on the carries after the first round.

Push-ups unbroken first 4 rds. Completed this 220828. It took way too long to install new front shocks on my truck on 220827, so I didn't have enough time to get to the pool and really wanted to hit this Rx.

In the CrossFit push-up demonstration in the link, the athlete demonstrating not only goes chest to the ground but quads too. Is this not a standard for the workout? It does appear that athletes are touching their quads to the ground.

The time scale here looks to be about :60 of medium hard effort for the swim. So probably 250 meter row or 200-300 meter run.

Was suprised how much the swim affected my pushups! They were broken by Round 2. Sets of 3-5 last three rounds.

No pool? Try 200 meter farmer carry 25s/15s. Give you a similar arm fatigue so you’re a little gassed coming into push-ups. Nice one, 5 rnds + 1 farmer carry.

Beautiful program for practicing on the beach. It will be nice to release other programs like this for the beach. Important knowledge to swim straight towards the beach and not parallel to it

As a swimmer, I live for these workouts. This mimicks our workouts of yesteryear. We didn't have a choice usually on the stroke (coach told us which one to do. Be able to mix up the strokes will alleviate some muscular fatigue and allow to push the swim. Backstroke is always a good option to get more air and loosen shoulders tightened when doing push-ups, front crawl and hunched over squats :)

I ran 8 miles at a 6:30 pace. Not a typo. First time in my life I ran more than 1 at a time.

I have struggled with keeping my elbows in close to my body. Form is so important and it is worth the extra effort to do these movements properly.

I have a pain on the interior portion of my right knee when I try to squat below the knee hinge. Any ideas on building that up so that I can squat fully?

I had similar problems awhile back. I did alot of work with bands. Clamshells. Lateral shuffle. Banded squats (slow squat, concentrate on pushing the knees out). Worked pretty well for me, but I'm not PT or other expert by any means.

I would definitely see your doctor about it. No sense making a bad problem worse. I'm guessing he will recommend seeing a physiotherapist. Mine did amazing things for my shoulder.

Try creating ground tension backwards while lowering into your squat. MeatHeadMonk on ig if you need help understand what that means.
