A late April 2020 analysis finds consistent evidence across multiple samples that chronic disease increases COVID-19 risk. The authors propose five possible mechanisms to explain why persons with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes experience increased COVID-19 severity.
