Here is my thought: When I see this piece from Goya, I cannot help seeing it through the lens of his more symbolic pieces like "Saturn Devouring his Son," or "Collossus," both of which evoke a far more visceral response and are more expressive of his worldview. Taken alone, for someone without a sense for the history or at of this age, this work seems more begnign, a simple portraiture. Everyone will see this work through the lens of their own context, and context is how meaning is constructed and understood. I don't know why Goya painted this work. Whether his motivation was commission or just something he had to get out of his head is part of the story. I'm compelled to dig deeper.

Question.....I’m looking to get the 5.11 vest. Any feedback as far as getting the cast iron or laser cut plates? Not sure of which one to purchase with the vest.
Many thanks,
John

@johnkianka Pay $15 extra for the nicer plates. This is a one time purchase bc you won’t need another pair. Read the reviews. I have them. There’s a difference in how it feels. You’d like the others just fine but, IMO if you’re spending $200 on a vest, spend $15 on the best plates.

Hi John-
I have a 5.11 with the "regular" plates and I love it. I have not tried the "laser cut" ones so I can't really give an honest comparison though. It is very comfortable-as much as a weight vest can be:)
