Sadie Jane

Complete as many rounds as possible in 23 minutes:

16 shuttle runs (each 25-ft length is 1 rep)
9 bar-facing burpees
3 power cleans

Sadie Jane Huffer, 37, died on Feb. 17, 2023, when a roof collapsed in Anchorage, Alaska, at Turnagain CrossFit.

Huffer was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and friend. She was born in Spokane, Washington, and came to Anchorage to study at the University of Alaska. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees in social work, she went on to become a licensed clinical social worker.

Described by loved ones as sensitive, loving, and caring, Huffer enjoyed knitting, picking blueberries, making bread, smoking salmon, and working out at Turnagain CrossFit.

Huffer is survived by her husband, John Paul; children, Tyler, Blaise, and Jane; sisters, Sarah Ransom and Samantha Lamphier; and parents, Denise and Ted Smith.

A memorial workout event is being held by Huffer's Turnagain CrossFit family on April 8 at 7 p.m. at The Dome in Anchorage. To help Huffer's family during this time, you may donate here.


Scaling:
Most athletes should be able to maintain the format and rep scheme of this workout. Reduce the load on the power cleans to a weight that allows you to maintain solid mechanics. Quick singles are acceptable.

Intermediate Option:
Complete as many rounds as possible in 23 minutes:

Added in the Split Jerk because I missed yesterday due to traveling and was pressed for time to get that WOD in today. I scaled to a weight my left elbow would handle at lockout without pain. And of course I alternated feet Chris. Cycling burpees needed to be faster.


RIP Sadie. Condolences to the Huffer family and Turnagain CrossFit community.

In 24:30, 6 rounds of 16 shuttle runs, 9 bar facing burpees, 3x135# power cleans. A long distance between station for burpees and cleans to the location for shuttle runs. Bad hip is limiting factor, especially slowing down runs. Still, good WOD! RIP Sadie Jane Huffer, condolences to her family.

Can someone explain the rep scheme? Often there's a connection with the deceased, either the day of death or a birthday or something similar.

As rx’d, 7 rounds + 9 burpees.


Grinder.  One of those workouts where you can just let your mind drift during the shuttle runs and the burpees.  Then time to focus so you don’t miss a heavy power clean.  Each round was about 3 minutes; I tried to speed up in rounds 6 and 7 to give myself a shot at finishing round 8.  Finished last round of burpees with 30 seconds but I had nothing left for the clean.  RIP Mrs. Huffer.

My goal was 7 rounds. First round took six minutes. However in hindsight should have made that a warm up or something as each proceeding round took less than 4. 6 rounds plus shuttle runs and burpees. Kicking myself for taking so long on the first round

I had the same question a few weeks ago. Here's the movement standard from the CrossFit Games homepage:

"Each rep of the shuttle run = 50 feet (15.24 m)

- 25 feet (7.62 m) down + 25 feet (7.62 m) back."

Looks pretty clear that for this workout, 25' = 1 rep, whereas in some previous workouts it was 50' = 1 rep. Down 25' and back 8 times should be the total run IMO.
