Workout of the Day

50

Peyton
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:

10 chest-to-bar pull-ups
10 dumbbell thrusters, 35/50 lb.

*Stop and perform 40 double-unders every 2 minutes, including at 0:00.

Then, at the 20:00 mark, begin a 2-mile run.

Post rounds of the AMRAP and run time to comments.

The CrossFit community mourns the loss of Chad Robert Peyton, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Chad, a U.S. Army veteran with 10 years of military service, struggled with depression and anxiety. He took his own life on May 17, 2021.

Chad received a Congressional nomination to attend West Point, where he graduated with a B.S. in May 2003 before being commissioned as an aviation officer in the U.S. Army.

Chad became a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot and served in Germany during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. He was subsequently promoted to Captain and stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, from 2006 until 2009, when he was transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his military service, he was awarded the Bronze Star and many other awards and commendations.

In 2012, Chad was honorably discharged from the Army and relocated to Santa Cruz, California, where he became a beloved member of the local CrossFit community. He and his wife, Nicole, were married in September 2014.

When he wasn’t flying helicopters as a first responder, Chad enjoyed spending time with his family, doing CrossFit, hiking in the forest, surfing, traveling, and helping his friends and fellow veterans.

Chad is survived by Nicole, who works on the publishing team at the CrossFit Home Office; his two children, Isla, 5, and Ellis, 3; and many other friends and family members.

If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD, anxiety, or depression, call the National Center for PTSD hotline right away: 1-800-273-8255. All calls are completely confidential.

Scaling:
This is a longer workout. Reduce the work to a level that is attainable yet still challenging and that allows you to come in from the run in 45 minutes or less. Newer athletes can modify the pull-ups and dumbbell loading while maintaining the significance of the reps.

Intermediate Option:
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
10 pull-ups
10 dumbbell thrusters, 25/35 lb.

*Stop and perform 40 double-unders every 2 minutes, including at 0:00. Then, at the 20:00 mark, begin a 2-mile run.

Beginner Option:
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
10 assisted pull-ups
10 dumbbell thrusters, 10/20 lb.

*Stop and perform 40 single-unders every 2 minutes, including at 0:00. Then, at the 20:00 mark, begin a 1-mile walk.

9R+4, 18:08 on the 2 mile run

*I did 5 strict chest to bar pullups every round instead of 10 kipping

*I also missed the first set of double unders. I didnt notice until after that the workout was supposed to start with double unders.

*I still have to scale running, jumping and heavy weights due to an Achilles tendon syndrom, wich originates from a serious injury, when I used to play soccer back in the days. It always comes back again, when my ego decides something like 600 du in a work out would be no problem for me (210609).

Completed 7/8 in the a.m.

4R even as RXd except the DU. Went 40 DU, 20 DU, 40 SU, then the next seven rounds of rope were singles and doubles mixed to get to 40 total with probably 10 as doubles. The rope really slowed me down today, but the thrusters weren't much better (did heavy Fran yesterday) and could not get through much of anything unbroken. Somewhere between 16-17 minutes on the 2-mile run right after. My timer stopped somewhere in the 2nd mile unfortunately, but felt like I maintained my 8 minute / mile pace.

Just realized I did this wrong! I did the rounds of rope every two minutes from the start, so 20:00, 18:00, etc. and stopped whatever I was doing to accommodate. Should have started the two minute timer after the rope I think?

subbed 75 single unders for the 40 DU’s (subbed 100 the first 2 rounds but it was just taking too much time).

The workout pattern was awkward for me. Ended up doing 7 rounds + 75 su’s, each round consisting of a jump rope sequence.

2 mile run/walk took 21:57, surely the slowest 2 miles I’ve ever run. No way I’d have done it had we not been honoring Chad today. Praying for peace and understanding for Nicole and their 2 young children.

As rx’d, 4 rounds + 7 C2B pull-ups.  21:25 for the 2 mile run.

Two workouts in one.  Dubs went okay – got in my head a little but usually got through them by 45 seconds.  On good rounds, this left enough time to do the pull-ups or the thrusters.  On a round where I was more fatigued, I only got part of them.  Once I got aggressive and did the 10 thrusters plus a few pull-ups, but I paid for that by having a terrible rounds of DUs.  Did not have much left for the run – had to grit it out.  11 min out (1st mile) and about 10 min back (2nd mile).

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

Nothing to rant about

WORKOUT THEMES

Memorial/honorary workout, accuracy is a major component is being able to finish one part of the workout, and stamina is a major component in the other. Core-to-extremity, jumping, elasticity, and skill are all themes here.

MAIN DECISION

Keep the format to honor or modify/simplify it to fit a different purpose.

TECHNIQUE SCALE

AMRAP in 20 minutes of:

Run 400 meters

10 dumbbell thrusters

10 pull-ups

*practice double unders in the warmup

CONSISTENCY SCALE

AMRAP in 12 minutes of:

10 thrusters

10 pull-ups

then run 2 miles

then 5 sets of 40 unbroken double unders

INTENSITY SCALE

Do the 20-minute AMRAP and the 2-mile run at separate times of the day, both in all-out efforts

INJURY SCALE

Upper-body - AMRAP in 20 minutes of: Run 400 meters, 40 double unders, 20 one-arm dumbbell thrusters

Lower-body - AMRAP in 20 minutes of: 10 strict press, 10 pull-ups

MY STUFF

Major in-season workout today, and also didn't give myself a lot of time. Messed around with 25# thrusters, strict pull-ups, singles, and an 800m run. Took about 15 minutes and some change

GENERAL FEAR LEVEL: 7
