If you go to CrossFit Aptos, you’ll get fitter.
But you’ll also walk away with a squad of new friends — friends that “feel like family,” says gym member Laura Mathias.
“Everyone’s so happy to see each other, everyone’s excited to see you meet your goals and see you accomplish something you didn’t think you could do,” Mathias says.
The family feel is by design. Go to the 9-a.m. class, for instance, and you’ll see moms and dads, babies and toddlers, all moving and laughing and celebrating life.
“We really wanted to be a place that supports families,” says gym owner Samantha Gray, “and is very inclusive and helps create a healthy lifestyle for families.”
That doesn’t mean you have to have kids to be part of the family. All you need to do is show up, work hard, and share a high-five.
“The moms are supportive of me, and I’m happy to be supportive of them,” says member Patrica Long. “I really love seeing strong women, and they’re the epitome of strong women.”
For many parents at CrossFit Aptos, the daily class is an opportunity to focus on themselves for an hour.
“I love the community here and the ability to know my kids are safe and that I can balance that with the rest of what else is going on in my life,” says Dana James.
And regardless of who you are or what you’ve got going on outside the gym walls, you’ll find a shared experience.
“It’s more than just working out,” Mathias says. “It’s coming in to a group of friends and accomplishing things that you didn’t think you could do with the support of those friends behind you.”
