Stimulus and Strategy: Today’s workout is a gymnastics and weightlifting couplet. Athletes should aim to complete this workout in 14 minutes or less. Expect the air squats to make the snatches more difficult than you want them to be. The loading of the snatches should be moderate to heavy. Some athletes may be able to perform a few touch-and-go reps, however, most will find success in performing quick singles.

Scaling: Reduce the load of the barbell to complete the first 10 snatches in 2 minutes or less. Reduce the reps of the air squats to complete each set in 1:30 or less. Reduce the complexity of the snatch by performing a hang snatch. In case of injury or limitation, perform a hang snatch or single-arm dumbbell snatch in place of the snatch. For the air squats, consider squatting to a target, or performing a lunge or a box step-up.

Coaching cues: Especially as fatigue accumulates in your lower body, focus on finishing the second and third pulls. Don’t get caught trying to “sneak” under the barbell.

Intermediate option with one more set of 40 rep air squats. Finished in 12:33.

For the snatches I used 35lbs kettle bell and did 10 on right side then ten of left. So a total of 20 for the first set then 16 and so forth. I have limited gym equipment. Then I did 3 sets of 8 rep smith machine hip thrusts - 115lbs and 8 reps (4 reps on each side) dumbbell lunges - 35lbs on each hand.

Brutal combo! The air squats made the snatches so much harder. Went with quick singles and focused on strong pulls—finished in 12:45. Great challenge!

Globo wod: if you are using iron plates today use a load that you can control on the way down, amd a load you can touch and go for at least 5 reps fresh. Consider doing low hang power snatches if needed. Dumbbell sub 2x dumbbell power snatches alternating 60/90lb dumbbell, or dumbbell squat snatches 40/60lbs. If all you have are 50lb dumbbells men do 4x reps power snatches, women do 2x reps power snatches.

Yes they can. In the days of yore, CF OGs would say that it’s meant to be done with squat snatch, but power is fine. Bottom line is that you do what will allow you to lift a moderate to heavy weight for you without sacrificing technique.

I would echo Lincolns last statement. I've always interpreted a 'snatch' or 'clean' with a prescribed weight as "whatever kind of snatch you need to get the weight up properly", because when you are fresh that may be a higher position, but when you are tired you may need to drop down to receive the bar properly. No-one does squat snatches to get their best time on Isabel.
