RANT

Nothing to rant about

WORKOUT THEMES

Gimmick movement. Monostructural. Sport-specific. Using a dose of stamina to the arms to challenge our swimming technique.

SHORT MEDIUM LONG

LIGHT x

MEDIUM

HEAVY

FORMAT/MOVEMENT QUESTIONS

Should I go and play a different sport or try to recreate swimming and push-ups in the weight room?

Will I risk being made fun of by wearing goggles and a speedo, or do I just swim in my basketball shorts?

Do I do CrossFit consistently enough to devote an entire workout to swimming and push-ups?

NEW TO CROSSFIT SCALE

AMRAP in 25 minutes of:

Run 200 meters

20 hollow rocks

10 push-ups

MY STUFF

Made up a version of yesterday's workout with the morning session. Also swam for a bit in my neighbor's pool, just imagining how I might drown if I did today's workout in the deep end

Nice change of pace and a whole different way of taxing the muscles.

In a 25 meter pool I did it with a 25 minute running clock with 20 pushups at the 5/10/15/20/25 minute mark got 905 meters. The pushups took me about a minute to do so had 4 minutes of swimming after that first round. IMO it's gonna be a good dose no matter how you decide to do it.

The structure is ambiguous. I see 3 interpretations:

  1. 5 rounds of: swim 5 mins + 20 push-ups
  2. AMRAP 25 minutes of: swim 5 mins + 20 push-ups
  3. Five 5-min rounds of: 20 push-ups + swim; but start with swim

Anyone at CF available to clarify?

- Thanks, Steve Day -

I opted for #2 with strict push-ups & subbed row:

4634m, 60 strict push-ups

last row, only 4:30 to bell

2:06/500m avg

I'm interpreting as the first - 5 rounds of 5 min swim/run + 20 push-ups

So at the end you'll have been swimming/running for a total of 25 minutes and done 100 push-ups.

I interpreted it a bit different---start a timer and at the 5/10/15/20 min mark, perform 20 pushups and then stop the clock at 25 minutes. So a total of 80 push ups.

Either way, it's all good! Get that fitness in:)

Rx (I think) 850m + all 100 push-ups

Wasn't sure if this was a 25min running clock, or: swim 5 min, 20 push-ups, swim 5 min, 20 push-ups, etc. Regardless, I was limited to 25 minutes total in order to get out of the way for the local swim team's practice at 0530. Had to account for transition in and out of the pool and time for push-ups so 3 of 5 swim periods I only got 3 laps (150m) in. Got a good dose anyway from a welcome change of modality from the last 2 days.

Globo wod: If a pool isn't available sub either a run, row, ski, bike or other erg for 25 minutes and do 20 pushups on the 5 minute intervals. For those of you at a YMCA, large private fitness club, or a college or university rec center you should have access to some sort of lap pool, just ask at the desk or look at the facility website for open swim hours or to book a lane. If you are bad at swimming consider working swim skills for 30 minutes (under supervision of a lifeguard) and then picking one of the above subs, or treading water for 25 minutes with the pushups on the 5s.
