As with all of Dave Castro’s workout hints; this one is obvious:

The next Guest Programmer is going to be a strong woman as symbolized by Elisa in the story. The chrysanthemums clearly represent the programming. Elisa is very proud of her flowers and is a natural at tending to them, as our Programmer will be very proud of her workouts and will be a natural at creating them.

As participants of the programming we are symbolized by Elisa’s Husband and the Tinker. But we had better treat her programming with more respect than either of them treat her Chrysanthemums! The Tinker tosses her Chrysanthemum starts onto the side of the road while her Husband doesn’t view her work in the garden as actually productive. We must make sure to not only participate in the programming but take it seriously.

Ok, I’m obviously joking, but it is great to see Castro/CrossFit posting not only insightful Nutrition/Fitness content but also Literature and the Arts. Keep it up!

It was Ben Smith then Michele Letendre (the latter of whom I enjoyed the workouts more). Did not like all the dumbbell stuff christian harris programmed, really ennjoyed dave's then matt fraser's.

I enjoyed the story, but don’t have much to comment on. A woman living a hard and lonely life and yearning for something new and different, but sorta tentative in reaching for it? Steinbeck’s descriptions are incredibly vivid and perceptive.
