My husband first symptoms of Parkinson’s occurred during covid, but was diagnosed in 2021 when he was 61 years. He was on Levodopa- not crazy about it! he was also on Sifrol and rotigotine not crazy about any of it either, The Levodopa did very little to help him. The medical team did even less. His decline was rapid and devastating. He had a stooped posture, tremors, muscle stiffness and even slow movements. I was a master Gardener and love herbs! This Parkinson’s took my life from me, I was no longer able to work in my garden anymore because I was a full time caregiver for my husband. We stopped most of his Parkinson’s medications due to severe side effects and I started him on Ayurvedic treatments from Natural Herbs Centre naturalherbscentre. com , the treatment has made a very huge difference for him. His symptoms including body weakness, tremors and slurred speech disappeared after few months on the treatment. He is getting active again since starting this treatment, he is able to walk and able to ride his treadmill again.. This Ayurvedic treatment is a miracle!! I recommend researching natural treatment for Parkinson’s disease versus taking the pharmaceutical drugs that only deal with specific symptoms and have damaging side effects to your body.

Another YOPD here diagnosed in 2016 at age of 37. I am a dedicated CrossFit enthusiast (started in 2007 or so) and am sure that the regimen has slowed the progression along with diet, speedbag; yoga, meditation etc - throwing the kitchen sink of everything non-pharma at it (in addition to medication). Keep fighting!

Man, I was just talking to Dillon and Cecilia this morning about how we saw such a major correlation during lockdown a few years ago from time spent on L-sits and increased deadlift weights, despite never touching a bar. Even though they're not listed, no excuse not to do the SLIPS! We gotta get back on those

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

I think this would be another good time for the reminder that these workouts are not intended to be viewed as singular things, but rather as part of a gameplan from weeks before and weeks leading up. For example, if you were planning your own workouts and wanted to hit a 5 rep max on deadlifts on January 13, what's the one thing you probably would not do the day before? Tabata squats? Oh yeah, right. And what would you probably not want to do three days ago? A hero workout with 2.5 miles of running and a crap ton of eccentric loading of the posterior chain with c&j? Yup, that too. Does that mean deadlifts are a bad idea today? Hell no! Look up Pat Sherwood's old video in the archives called "Bodypart Splits" (it wasn't a Journal video, just one of those ones they'd post on the main page). You need to be able to know how to keep a rigid midline when you are fresh, when you are going fast, when you are going slow, and when your legs are absolutely fried chicken from the last few days. Accept that a 5 rep pr probably isn't going to happen and get some good practice.

WORKOUT THEMES

High output followed by full recovery. Weightlifting. Squatting with an emphasis on pushing and midline. Pushing at midrange. Stamina.

SHORT MEDIUM LONG

LIGHT

MEDIUM

HEAVY x

COORDINATION SCALE

AMRAP in 12 minutes of:

10 deadlifts

10 push-ups

STRENGTH SCALE

As is but instead of 5 reps unbroken for each set, give yourself like a minute or 45 seconds to get all 5 reps in.

POWER SCALE

Time each set of 5, not allowing any to go fall under a time you feel is fast enough

MY STUFF

Did sets of 315 deadlifts and ring dips in between. My legs are done.

GENERAL FEAR LEVEL: 5

Hello Jeff. I am 73 and been doing crossfit nearly 13 years. Reading your story is quite encouraging and sets the bar right up where it should be; just within reach. I have been fortunate to enjoy pretty good health with youth sports, for years as a navy pilot and much of life as a runner. Now, having been tested with a couple very minor challenges, they provided me time to reflect on the “what ifs” should I face a challenge such as yours. I have thought many times that regardless of physical or mental obstacles in the future I would do everything possible to set aside any awkwardness in order to be in the gym. You are a perfect example of how to do so. I admire you. I encourage you to keep at it.

Thank you for validating my “what ifs”.

Dave

My husband had PD-5 programme about 4 months ago. Tremors in his hands and jaw are gone. It doesn’t make the Parkinson’s go away but it did give him better quality of life. we got the treatment from ability health centre
