A day after running 8km (treadmill says 23km so far this week)

Took those box jumps nice and steady, no slip ups today. Most reps were a stand up then step down(very slow). Run on treadmill at 1°, last round at 8mph.

Subbed tuck jumps for box jumps, otherwise Rx.

Still only have that rickety bench. Could have done weighted step-ups instead but wanted to preserve the jumping stimulus. I'm very positive I would have cleared 36" every jump, and I paced myself on the tuck jumps as if I had a box.

As rx’d, 14:47.


Quite a bit slower than in 2015 (12:07).  Some of this is definitely the running – but I’m guessing the bigger issue is the high box jumps.  36” is not as trivial as it was 7 years ago.  Did these all singles, and had to stay mentally focused to avoid any misses (had 1 miss, just a minor scrape).

Beginner:

I am use to doing box jumps. Used the 24in side of a wooded Rogue games box. Missed on the last rep of the first set and skinned my shin. I’ll have a nice shiner so lesion learned.

Jumping up/stepping down on a 26.5” box

in the demo video…the jumps looked good, but stepping off the bumpers onto a small corner of the box and then down to the ground looked like accidents waiting to happen.

This is my go-to technique for getting down. Feels safer to do this versus jumping down. The accident waiting to happen is getting up to 36"...

Nothing to rant about


WORKOUT THEMES

Monostructural and gymnastics. Jumping with extra range of motion and accuracy. Using fatigue (mostly endurance) to challenge our jumping, also using stamina (jumping) to challenge our running.


SHORT MEDIUM LONG


LIGHT

MEDIUM


HEAVY


TECHNIQUE SCALE

Either extend to 5 rounds if you want to emphasize running or do 25 box jumps per round at lower height it you want to emphasize jumping


CONSISTENCY SCALE

Mush everything together into 1 round


INTENSITY SCALE

As is, rest 2 minutes between rounds, record fastest and slowest rounds
