Scaling:
Look back at your recent effort on DT from 220922 and workout 221002. Use a lighter weight for today’s workout. This is a high volume of lifting. Pick a load that allows you to complete an entire round unbroken when fresh. Beginner-level athletes can reduce the overall volume.

Intermediate Option:
4 rounds for time of:
24 deadlifts
18 hang power cleans
12 push jerks

♀ 55 lb ♂ 75 lb

Beginner Option:
3 rounds for time of:

Been a long time since I last checked the comments. So glad I did. Where else would I find a spirited conversation on the deadlift? This made my day.

17:34 as rx’d. That was rough endurance-wise, both muscular and cardiovascular, even though I paced from the get-go. Did strict press into push press into p. jerk during the first 4 rounds, then just p. press into p. jerk on round 5. Broke at 23 DL and 1 DL+17 HPC each round. Shoulders to overhead unbroken each round after the final HPC. Low-fat yogurt with maple syrup for breakfast, and didn’t eat enough yesterday due to digestive issues.

As rx’d, 10:58.

Very breathy.  Unbroken on each movement except had to break HPCs in round 5.  Breaks between movements to catch my breath (or not die, either way).  First round right

around 2 minutes, each round after that a hair slower.  Grip hurting pretty good – was the reason I needed to drop in round 5.

(Strangely, according to my heart rate tracker, I was flirting with the redline for rounds 1 and 2, and then went full postal in round 3, with a peak HR of 188.  It then looks like I

rested for over a minute before jumping back into rounds 4 and 5, where I was again under the redline.  I say strangely b/c that is not my recollection of the workout – it felt like each round built and got harder until the end.  Could have been some sort of malfunction – I wear it on a bicep strap and sometimes the strap gets kinked up and the tracker doesn’t record correctly.  In any case, this was a definite ass-kicker, no matter what the HR tracker says.)

Champions Club Scaling Notes

RANT

Nothing to rant about

WORKOUT THEMES

Weightlifting, a version of a benchmark test that challenges stamina a little more (or in a different way) than the original. Squatting with an emphasis on pushing, jumping with an upright torso, pushing with skill, overhead, core to extremity, breaking down one movement into separate parts

SHORT MEDIUM LONG

LIGHT x

MEDIUM

HEAVY

STAMINA SCALE

As is, lower the weight so every round is unbroken (for the record, unbroken, to me, means no breaking up the rhythm - pausing at the start or finish position of the movement counts as breaking up the reps)

COORDINATION SCALE

2 rounds for quality of (no timer and empty bar)

60 deadlifts

60 hang power cleans

60 push jerks

SPEED SCALE

As listed, Rest 2 minutes between rounds, record best and worst round time

MY STUFF

Did a different workout - heavy(ish) overhead squats and double unders

Anyone reading this lacking the benefit of proper coaching should be aware that you can tie your back into knots doing it wrong by being forward onto your toes. That happened to me until a coach said "stay on your heals". Fixed, instantly. Now I'm happily at 2x bodyweight, and it feels easy. All those deadlifts in the open were a breeze.
