As rx’d, 15:34 (PR).


I did this in 2017 in 18:41, and for some reason, I thought they changed the time cap to 15 min.  Now this was good news, b/c it meant I could re-do the workout and there was really no time for me to beat; there was no way I would finish sub-15, so I wouldn’t be doing exactly the same workout (some reps would be missed).  Mentally this was freeing.  The even better news was – when I got to 15 min, I only had 5 burpees to go, so I figured why not finish it out and claim the PR.

 


Tried to move quickly through DB snatches, short breaks after every 10.  In the last round, it was more like every 5.  Tried to keep going on the burpee BJOs, spending as little time as possible on the ground, and only taking breaks after having completed 5 reps.  Did this with Ian (16yo), who did 25# DB and 20” box, everything else same.  He got through 36/40 DB snatches.  A great effort on this nasty little WOD.

For 17.1, I did paced singles on the snatch with almost no breaks and my back hurt for a week.

Today I did sets of 10 with longer breaks and my back feels fine.

Disappointed with the score but a happy back counts for something.

DB snatches are the worst for my elbow, as much as I like them. So...

First time doing this. Can’t imagine repeating this workout again by Monday for a better score but if I did I would try to pace my first two rounds of burpees a little slower and step up rather than hop my feet up out of the burpee.

I don’t have a box, so I did 36” burpee broad jumps instead.

WHAT ABOUT THE MOVEMENTS

Dumbbell snatch themes - core-to-extremity, open-chain/loss of connection, jumping, overhead, unilateral loading

Burpee box jump themes - changing orientation, jumping/landing, tons of ROM, skill (connecting one movement to another)


MAIN DECISION

Do the workout as a time trial or to emphasize/practice a specific theme?


TECHNIQUE SCALE

As is, maybe regular burpees instead


CONSISTENCY SCALE

2 rounds for time of:

60 dumbbell snatches

30 burpee box jumps


INTENSITY SCALE

Start from 50 and work down to 10 on the db snatch instead of the way listed.


INJURY SCALE

Upper-body injury - same format, do high box jumps instead of burpee box jump

Lower-body injury - same format, regular burpees (technique scale)
