Stimulus and Strategy:
Today’s workout is inspired by the classic CrossFit workout Jackie. Your goal is to finish in 10 minutes or less. Just like Jackie, you need to push the pace on the rower. The workout isn’t won here, but it can certainly be lost. The load of the barbell should feel light and allow you to knock out larger chunks of reps. On the handstand push-ups — just like the pull-ups in Jackie — use whatever you have left in the tank to get across the finish line.

Scaling:
Reduce the loading of the barbell to maintain sets of 15 reps or more.

To reduce the complexity of the deadlift, consider performing a sumo deadlift or a dumbbell deadlift. For the handstand push-ups, consider a pike push-up, a dumbbell push press, or a standard push-up.

In case of injury or limitation, complete 2,500 meters on the Echo bike or 1,000 meters on a ski erg. For the deadlifts, consider a sumo deadlift with a kettlebell, an unloaded good morning, or a GHD hip extension. For the handstand push-ups, consider a dumbbell shoulder press with one or both arms or a push-up.

Coaching cues:
To maintain balance and proximity to the wall during kipping handstand push-ups, check your timing. Pull your knees down more slowly, brace your stomach, and then kick your heels toward the wall immediately followed by pressing with your arms to finish the lockout.

Had a false start of 1:00 when I didn't start my timer. Stopped then rested a few minutes before starting again. If you don't time it do you even score?


Rowed hard. Tried to keep a 2:00 pace but faltered a little. Good row. DeadLift was lite but the quick volume got to my glutes/backlegs. Cannot do hspu and don't have a good weight to scale shoulderpresses. Dips instead.


Good medium length workout after yesterdays longer. Rest tomorrow. Hopefully ready for open.

Row in ~3:50.  Broke deads 15-15-10-10.  HSPUs felt great to start, did more than I had planned.  Went 15-7-4-3-1.  Maybe should have broken after the first 10, but when they feel that good it’s hard to stop. Strict HSPUs.

Results: made it to 3 overhead presses and 3 push presses (1x PP, 2x OHP, 1x PP, 1x OHP, 1x PP, failed OHP) in 10 minutes


Comments: swapped out 1000m row for 60cal on airbike due to hand injury, and swapped handstand push-ups for OHP because I’m quite far from having handstand push-ups. Good challenge! But even 95lbs for OHP is quite challenging for me, should’ve maybe just done push presses. Notes for next time!

I spent too much time on the deadlifts today. My legs just weren’t up for it. After yesterday’s 2-mile run post-WOD, a 1.5-hour ruck, another 2-mile run, and some yard work, they were completely shot. But hey, I’ve been told I’m full of excuses, so there’s that!

Theoretically sub 10 minutes, but only if you can do that with good form; otherwise scale it appropriately, or ditch the clock altogether.
