Pro tip: watch a movie while you do this, but make sure it’s a good one...I watched the new Tremors movie and I should’ve picked something more cerebral to stop myself from doing math every 2-5m to try to figure out how many more minutes I had left! 😂

Rx...still sore from the 10/8/6/4/2 sq and dl, but ready for a mental challenge. My goal was to finish at 1:30. Good enough for a long recovery wod though @ 1:37:37.1
1st time doing it but have been wanting to do it since 2013, when I saw it programmed, I realized it was time to pay up. Pretty happy with it, farthest I’ve rowed before this was like 7500. Wasn’t exactly sure how to pace it so I came out conservatively for the first half. Definitely think I could shave a minute or 2 off it.

So, I had to answer some questions before deciding to do this WOD:
Do I really want to accomplish something I have never done before?
Do I want to test my mental as well as physical stamina today?
Do I have any injuries that would make this not a good idea to attempt?
Answer questions 1 and 2 again.
Answered all yes.
Rx'd 91:46.
Not a great time in terms of competition but I completed it (goal number 1). Kept my stroke rate around 22-25 for the majority at drag 4-5. I think my average 500m split was around 2:00. Had to take a short break around 17,5k as my posterior was not happy with the seat position anymore. Especially pleased that I was able to do it after not having an Erg available to me for the past 6 months.
Chris Sinagoga - I agree with your general fear level - 10. This was a bigger mental push than physical. You will need to be ready in your head if you are going to attempt this.

I am glad that you didn't let the "boring" part interfere with the workout. You are more disciplined in your training than I am, for sure. I have no idea what would be a good time, but that looks really good to me.

Cheers Chris! Looking at it as a challenge to accept vice a workout I just have to trudge through, and making a mini challenge/game out of 1 aspect of the exercise (i.e. keeping stroke rate within a certain range) helped. A never quit attitude pays dividends too.
FYI my time isn't terrible but Joshua Gaskins' 1:20:05 (80:05) is cooking. My hat is off to him.

No rower. I racked up calories on my elliptical trainer at a conversion of 25m = 1 calorie. It's not perfect but it's in the neighborhood.
2,000m = 80.0 cal = 7:34 (1:53.5 pace)
21,097m = 843.9 cal = 1:22:09 (1:56.8 pace) and 6.15 miles

Champions Club Scaling Notes
RANT
In the Muppets Christmas Carol, Beaker and the green dude that's not Kermit ask Alfred from Batman if he could make a donation for the poor. Alfred says, "I know how to treat the poor... my taxes go to prisons and poorhouses... the homeless must go there."
"But some would rather row a half marathon," said the green dude
"If they'd rather row then they better do it," said Alfred. "And decrease the surplus population."
WHAT ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Row - a monostructural movement with squatting and push-up shapes done in a sinful amount repetition
WHAT ABOUT THE FORMAT
There was a dude named Matt Fecht that used to train at our gym and he was a professional marathon runner. He talked about this thing called "marathon legs" - which was a term runners use for keeping their legs in some kind of fatigued state throughout their training cycles so they are used to the feeling. I have a feeling Dave Castro used this at the games to give everyone who advanced the "marathon legs" - which would make recovery and technique even more important than usual. Or he just landed on Park Place with two hotels and wanted to take out his frustration on everyone.
TECHNIQUE SCALE
This would be a good workout to practice rowing/running with some push-ups and squats mixed in at a decent volume. Trying to see if the burning in our arms or legs makes our technique fall apart. Try this:
AMRAP in 30 minutes of:
Run 800 meters
25 push-ups
50 squats
Rest 1 minute between rounds
CONSISTENCY SCALE
As is, I suppose, just stopping sometime before you shit your pants.
INTENSITY SCALE
Spend a half hour on the rower and see how many [insert time here] 500m efforts you can do. Rest as needed in between.
Same could be done on the track for running, sub an 800m run for the row.
Or find a CrossFit benchmark/hero workout you can do. Aside from the marathon legs, this workout can also serve as a benchmark. If you're into that sort of thing.
MY STUFF
For a half hour I played around with 1-mile and 800-m runs mixed with pull-ups, candlesticks, kb swings, squats, and push-ups. It was not fun.
