Updates to the Certified CrossFit Trainer Eligibility and Maintenance Requirements

CrossFit Level 3 Certified Trainer badgeRecently, CrossFit updated the eligibility requirements for the Certified CrossFit Trainer (CCFT) credential.

These updates are in response to both stakeholder feedback and in consideration of the recent release of the Certified CrossFit Level 4 Coach credential. All CCFT eligibility requirement updates were approved by the CrossFit Certification Board and are effective immediately.

EXAM ELIGIBILITY

In order for a trainer to be eligible to apply for the exam, candidates must fulfill each requirement in one of the following paths:

PATH 1

  • Current CrossFit Level 2 Trainer Certificate.
  • 375 hours of coaching CrossFit (previously 750 hours) for groups or individuals. Hours must be accrued while Level 1 or 2 is current and must have been accumulated within the last five years.

PATH 2

1,000 hours (previously 1,500 hours) of active strength-and-conditioning coaching at the collegiate or professional level. Hours need to have occurred for groups or individuals during employment for a college/university or professional sports team and must have been accumulated within the last five years.

CREDENTIAL MAINTENANCE

To maintain your CCFT credential, you must:

  1. Abide by the CrossFit Standards of Professional Practice.
  2. Maintain a current CPR certificate.
  3. Obtain 36 continuing education units (previously 50).
  4. Complete a minimum of 150 coaching hours (previously 300).
  5. Submit recertification fees and verify contact information.
