Panelists:
Julie Foucher, MD, Family Physician (@juliefoucher)
Fran Whitfield, Cancer Survivor (@franwhitfield)
Allison Betof Warner, MD, Exercise Oncologist (@jockmeetsnerd)
Zionna Hanson, Barbells for Boobs Founder (@zionna)
Scott Britton, Battle Cancer Founder (@battle.cancer)

“One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime,” Dr. Allison Betof Warner says.

Betof Warner is quick to point out that the medical community doesn’t have all the answers but says, “We know that lifestyle interventions do help prevent cancer.”

During a panel discussion hosted by CrossFit Health at the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games, Betof Warner joined with a cancer survivor, the founders of Barbells for Boobs and Battle Cancer, and Dr. Julie Foucher to have a conversation about the applications of CrossFit for individuals diagnosed with cancer.

“We don’t need to be wrapped in cotton balls,” says Fran Whitfield, a fitness trainer who is currently undergoing treatment for stage IV breast cancer.

Panelists share their personal connection to cancer, the impact of exercise on cancer prevention and treatment, and ideas for how we can build a bridge between fitness and healthcare to better support cancer survivors.

All panelists were so well spoken... and their personal stories and triumphs were incredibly moving as well. So, thank you for sharing with us.

As an integrative physician since 2008, along with doing Crossfit since 2012, I have been considering to open (in New Jersey) a non-profit physician-owned Crossfit box. My intention is to integrate one's "typical healthcare" with their fitness (and added yoga, mindfulness meditation, etc.) within one location.

Can Crossfit perhaps connect me with others who may have gone forward with this type of venture or have considered it as well?

Also, I would love to connect with Dr. Warner (given NY and NJ are not too far) as well as Zionna Hanson for future coordination with Barbells for Boobs -personally, losing my mother to recurrent breast cancer in 2007 was the direct impetus for me opening my own integrative medical practice at that time.

Thank you all again.
