I've never seen myself as a fitness fanatic and started going to a gym just a few years ago. Then, at the age of 79, I joined the Crossfit crew in Melbourne, Australia with my wife, 67. Three years on, and we have both come to enjoy the new confidence, improvement of strength and balance, but especially the comradeship and fun we have with our coaches and the rest of the team. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging. We go 3 times a week and have also joined in some of the special weekend competitions. We would not miss it for anything and hope to keep progressing on our fitness journey.
For years, I was intimidated by the photos of CrossFit athletes, buff, muscular, out of my league. When I became an empty nester at the age of 50, I knew I needed to shake things up, so with the encouragement of a friend who loved CrossFit, I gathered the courage to give it a try. I'm 9 years in and I am the strongest and fittest I have ever been in my life. Granny can rope climb!! CrossFit is functional fitness - it carries over into everyday life. I cannot live without it!

You get your life back! I started in my later 60s because my daughter, Lindsay Vaughan, told me I wasn’t going to live long enough to see a grandchild. I am almost 72 and I am so strong, now. I get on the floor with my grandson AND I can get up!
