At CrossFit South Brooklyn, owner David Osorio has built a successful business by making sure his gym offers something for everyone.
To serve parents and young athletes from 3 to 17, he provides four levels of CrossFit Kids classes. As Osorio explains, the larger goal of the CrossFit Kids program is to encourage a positive association with fitness and physical activity from an early age. In addition, the classes help foster a growth mindset: If the kids work hard, they will see improvement inside and outside the gym.
“Hey, guys, do you want to get better at math? How do we get better at math? You work hard, you study, you practice and you get better. It’s the same thing with climbing a rope or jumping on a box or running,” Osorio says.
Having fun is also important, he adds.
“We want to see the kids laughing, smiling, giving each other high-fives, just having a good time here.”
