The CrossFit Scholarship Program

A core value of CrossFit has always been to forge a broad, general, and inclusive fitness. To ensure we are remaining true to all aspects of that important value, we must continue to take inventory of our progress, own our shortfalls, and evolve through action.

CrossFit and its methodology are intended for anyone who wishes to improve their health and fitness. The power of CrossFit’s community and methodology presents a unique opportunity to help bridge gaps in access to healthcare and wellness.

Developing the Future Through Fitness

The mission of the CrossFit Scholarship is to spark meaningful healthcare changes in underrepresented and underserved communities by providing foundational health and fitness education through free access to the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course.

Increasing Accessibility Throughout the Community

The love, support, and tangible healthcare solutions found throughout our global CrossFit community should be available to everyone. We believe providing more access to CrossFit’s life-changing health and fitness methodology is one way we can help. CrossFit can help promote change by providing broader and more inclusive access to our coaching credential. In the future, and in collaboration with other members of the CrossFit community, we will broaden the program to include mentorship opportunities and pathways to becoming an entrepreneurial business owner.

Following the program’s launch, we will look for ways to adapt and expand it to better serve the underrepresented or underserved, continually keeping an eye toward engaging other stakeholders in the community who are undertaking parallel efforts to support diversity and inclusion for those facing the greatest healthcare challenges.

Beginning Next Month in Atlanta

The CrossFit Scholarship Program will launch in Atlanta, Georgia, July 11-12, 2020, at CrossFit Downtown Atlanta with a free Level 1 Course for kids and young adults.

CrossFit HQ Flowmaster Chuck Carswell (CF-L4) says, “I look forward to working with CrossFit Downtown Atlanta, other local affiliates, and nonprofits like the Atlanta Leadership Club. The Leadership Club’s mission is to teach participants how to apply for jobs, be successful in interviews, and engage in team building activities. This shared objective to positively impact youth in Atlanta represents a synergistic match with the CrossFit Scholarship and supports the aims of this course.”

Is this for anyone to show up? Or do people have to get notified if they received the scholarship?

Crossfit L1 is high on goals to get!!

I think CF also needs to look at alternative ways to stay certified. Many people can't afford to pay $500 every 5 years to "re-certify." There should be a free way to keep your certification current. I'm a teacher and we are offered free classes to keep our licenses current. CF could offer classes online that you're required to take and pass to keep your certification. There are many ways to accomplish this. Just a thought on ways to get more people included. It won't help if you give free certification courses if they aren't going to be able to pay every 5 years to renew. My cert expired in May and I am in a financial crisis of my own and now will end up having to retake the whole thing for $1,000 if I want to coach again. That won't be something I can afford for a while. If you're a coach that wants to continue to build on their certifications level 1 to 2 and so on, I understand charging.

Why do you need cerifications anyway? Are they required for your job as a trainer, or just for personal achievement?

Most boxes in my area will only let certified coaches coach. So, yes, they are required if you want to coach. I know I look at the qualifications of the coaches when I'm looking at a box. I personally think you should be certified once and continue to hold the certification unless you want to move up to another level. I wouldn't need it if I didn't want to coach. I think the purpose of this scholarship program is to groom new coaches and get more boxes opened in new areas.

So is this meaning that the certification class will only be offered to kids and young adults or to those that are wanting to coach kids and young adults? My husband is currently a baseball coach at our local highschool, our local club baseball league and runs their weight room workouts. He has been trying to figure out a way for me to come in and coach since I have my Level 1 and will get my Level 2 in August but there is some red tape with the school district. If he could get his Level 1 through this scholarship program that would be awesome! Please let me know since it is unclear to me based on this information.

Hey Guys,

This truly is amazing!! Wishing You all the very best with it.

If I may highlight the region I am currently in (home country, Hungary). I see a lot of potential all around and that honestly is great!! But at the same time coaches seem to struggle with the language and not getting qualified in CrossFit.

This could be another goal to work on so what is being taught to members -not just in this country but all around- would be solid CrossFit. I myself would be happy to fully support this matter voluntarily so people could have a better understanding of what CrossFit truly is.

Keep it up! :)

How could our gym, CrossFit Crown City, be a part of this? We would love to be part of an outreach program in the greater Los Angeles area. Please let us know if we could help in any way.

How about taking this a step further, Crossfit HQ should subsidize memberships as a scholarship for underserved high school and college students. Exposing young adults to a community which, for the most part, is comprised of young professionals, could be the networking opportunity these young kids need to advance in life. My box is full of great role models and I would love to see more deserving kids have access to them.

This is absolutely fantastic and so encouraging. In a deprived town in the UK which has significant health inequalities, we have amazing evidence that CrossFit has the power to save and transform lives. As a non-profit Box [The 180 Project - home of CrossFit DeltaFox] we blend CrossFit with education, nutrition and life coaching- breaking the vicious cycle between addiction, crime and prison. People are becoming physically, mentally, emotionally well and socially connected. Through CrossFit we are building strong and resilient individuals helping them to make a 180 degree turnaround and taking their place in society... new friendships, new jobs, new sustainable lifestyle. Once they've been through the 180 recovery programme they then become members of the mainstream box - totally inclusive and integrated. We'd love to see this grow and be part of something that will not only help individuals, but will help transform and heal communities. Check out what we do - https://www.180project.co.uk/what-we-do

Sería muy bueno que algo así llegara a Venezuela. Ya que en cada rincón del mundo nos encontramos muchos atletas con ganas de aprender y emprender con CrossFit. (It would be great if something like this came to Venezuela. Since in every corner of the world we find many athletes who want to learn and undertake with CrossFit. I feel such a great emotion and love for this sport that I can't imagine the emotion that a CrossFit program would come to me how it is in Venezuela.)

Great Idea... and other thing about to open a small box like people have a small garage and they can not have a big one and to help then to star with the small and then move to a bigger place. I think it will nice and will be a lot more boxes arround the world. there are some many people who would like to enjoy crossfit community like me. It will be nice if i could have a feed back about it.

Hola!

I think it is a great idea from crossfit to carry out this campaign. My dream has always been able to do level 1 certification but I don't have enough money to do it, and I think it's great that I can. help other people who like me do not have the possibility to do it and thus help them.

Such a wonderful instructor (all of ours were wonderful, I hasten to say!) and such a genuinely nice guy. This is a great initiative and going straight to where the need may be the greatest!
