Workout of the Day

114

Back squat 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 reps

Post loads to comments.

Compare to 221017.

Stimulus and Strategy:
Today is a heavy day. Keep in mind, heavy is relative to each athlete's capacity and experience. As long as you are working to your limits, you will benefit from today’s effort. Experienced athletes should build to a heavy set of 2 and plan to go as heavy as possible across all sets. Newer athletes should start light, focus on mechanics, and slowly add weight as they are comfortable.

Scaling:
Reduce the loading of the barbell to maintain safety and the integrity of the lift.

To adjust the complexity of the lift, consider performing a goblet squat with a dumbbell or kettlebell.

In case of an injury or limitation, consider squatting with a single dumbbell or kettlebell. You can also lunge with a load or perform an unloaded air squat.

Intermediate option:
Same as Rx’d.

Beginner option:
Same as Rx’d.

Coaching cues:
As you stand up out of the bottom of the squat, focus on the shoulders and hips rising together while driving through your heels to stand.

my CrossFit coach from high school would always add a couple super set workouts after the training to keep going. I know that squats are leg workouts. I was was hoping for ideas that I can do after I’m done with squats.

Accessory work added to a heavy day can be beneficial if there is a purpose behind it. If you are using CrossFit as your training program to supplement a sport you play, then perhaps adding in accessory would be beneficial. This program posted online is for anyone looking to be generally prepared for the rigors of life while also training for good heath over the course of their lifespan. 10 sets of 2 back squats can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be, but I would only add accessory work to supplement for a sport or to perhaps prehab/ rehab an injury if that were the case. Most people who follow this program are training to be healthy and fit, not necessarily training for a sport.

Stephen Bart

I would also add that diluting the workout of the day with multiple different additions could take away from the overall effort given to the main workout, in this case, 10 sets of squats. I would read the article below titled “heavy days” to get a deeper understanding of the point I am trying to make.

205, 215, 220, 230, 235, 235, 240, 250, 255, 260, 275. Had ACL reconstruction last year and this is the heaviest I’ve squatted since then. Felt pretty good, far off what I used to have, but still feels like a PR.

Awesome Job! I know the struggle! I also had an ACL reconstruction about 3 years ago. It seems your progress is really good!
