Scaling:
Today’s workout should be a moderate time-domain effort. The 15 high box jumps are meant to be a challenge, particularly after running hard. Choose a manageable box height, but one that is a little outside your comfort zone. If you can, select a box that allows you to jump instead of performing step-ups to a taller box (barring an injury). Prior to starting the workout, practice using your hands to get down from the top of the box. Once you are standing tall on top of the box, squat down and place your hands on the box. With your hands on the box, you can step down to the ground or jump down. This will speed up your transition between reps and make the descent off the box safer.

Intermediate option:
4 rounds for time of:

15 box jumps
400-meter run

24-inch box
30-inch box

Beginner option:
3 rounds for time of:

15 box step-ups
400-meter run

12-inch box
20-inch box

Coaching cues:
If you catch yourself landing hard on your box jumps, think about bringing your knees up as you jump and landing as quietly as you can. This will improve efficiency and save energy.

I swapped out the 400m run for 2 minutes of jump rope cause I didn’t want to take up a treadmill at the gym and running in & out of the gym would’ve been counterproductive. I really suck at jump rope, so it was all single unders with probably no more than 20 done in a row, constantly resetting. Calves and thighs are burning, and I am definitely frustrated by not being good at skipping lol. Good finisher to my weight training!

At a track, and jumps to a tire (somewhere between 20-24”)

I warmed up inside with rowing and worked up to 24” jumps but stopped going higher as that felt like the most my knees were going to handle today. Decided to go to the track since I am not friends with treadmills and still wanted to run vice subbing rowing. Runs were slower than I would like but manageable.

Box jumps are still a bit of a mental block for me based on past ugly shin-juries, so a 30 inch box is more likely to jump on/over me than me it ATM; maybe some day:

That's a good idea & worth a shot, thank you. As it is now, I wear shin guards like I'm heading into a vicious rugby scrum. My brain still makes me freeze up. My shin was seriously busted; sparing the gory details, but even 20 inches is panic inducing😬

Globo wod: if a 30/36" platform isnt available for box jumps sub broad jumps 36"/42". Scale as needed. Sub for runs are 500m row or 25/28 calories assault or echo bike. If using a conventional treadmill use a slight incline.

RXd in the garage gym. Outside loops closer to 450 m. About 1 minute for each round of box jumps with a step down (no hands, see below). Runs around 2-2:30.

Injured my hand pretty bad (waiting on an MRI, but believed to be a ruptured tendon) in a Spartan race this past weekend and will not be able to do any grip related workouts so my posts will be sparse! Was able to complete 220810's ruck workout yesterday and this one today without any hands however. Lot's of leg days coming up!


First post since Lazar's death in the games. RIP. Feel conflicted currently about CF, hopeful that this ultimate loss can bring some safety to athletes going forward competing at the highest levels.

James, that was painful to watch and a blow to the Games and all CFers. We won’t know much until after the autopsy and investigation, but to my eye it looked like 2 monitors on standup paddle boards were nearby but didn’t see him or recognize his struggle, and no one onshore listened to the spectators. Even if CF had a good safety plan (which we don’t know yet), it takes people to make it work.
