Attended the L-1in Orange Ca. Excellent staff!!! Breakout groups for the movement’s were efficient, very productive and FUN. Lectures were informative with the right amount of humor that kept the class engaged. I learned how to observe, cue, correct and encourage my fellow participants. Really a great weekend of learning in a fantastic environment. Everything ran efficiently and on time! Thank you Crossfit staff, Nuno, Rick, Libby and Alec.....

Subbed low box jumps for double-unders because I realized a few years ago that double-unders are a silly gym gimmick that serve no functional purpose (no one has ever been able to point me to a situation in life, sport, military, or law enforcement, where someone has to jump 1-2 inches off the ground 50-200 times with both feet, while making tiny circles with their hands), and I therefore refuse to do them anymore

That’s fine. But not every movement is “functional” like you’re thinking. Some movements are conditioning and skill building. Being able to concentrate under duress is a skill that a lot of people could benefit from. Double-unders help hone this.

Nick Fenton, thanks for your thoughts on this. But the definition of CrossFit is “functional movements performed at high intensity.” Can you think of any other movement used in CrossFit workouts that is purely “conditioning and skill building,” that is, which doesn’t have any functional correlate (for example, handstands, handstand pushups, and handstand walking aren’t functional movements themselves, but they have a functional correlate in holding/carrying things overhead)?

Don’t know what your lifting background is, but squat snatches are difficult to master. Suggest starting with overhead squats, then trying muscle or power snatches for a while, then transition to muscle/power snatches, then descending into an overhead squat. Only when all that is solid try full snatches.

Gave myself 2-3 minutes each round to work on double unders. Not feeling it today.
Power snatch - jumping with a moderate weight and an emphasis on the overhead position/upright torso
Double under - jumping with an emphasis on elasticity and accuracy
WHAT ABOUT THE FORMAT
For any new kids on here, Pat Sherwood is about as real as it gets when it comes to understanding CrossFit. The old CrossFit Journal is filled with great videos and articles that feature him. Needless to say, his explanation is rather good.
TECHNIQUE SCALE
8 rounds as listed, disregard the timer. do 1:30 or 2:00 of double under practice each round if you don't have them yet.

I was in the kind of bad mood only college football can bring out of me, so I literally did the laziest workout of my entire year. 4 rounds, 20 muscle snatch with a 15-lb. bar, and 40 one-foot jump ropes on each side. No idea what my time was. The goal today was to not find an excuse to break the habit of working out.
