18:12 rx. 6’ increments minimum on hs walk.

(6-6-12-18-18-18-12-18-6-12-6)

Started off rower and it took 10 seconds for me to get in and get going fumbling the seat and straps! Nothing tired at the end except neck, traps and delts but they were already sore from yesterday.

On vacation on 8/2. I completed this today, Thursday, 8/8/19, with following strategy:

32 calories elliptical trainer Level 12

66 dumbbell jerks, two 12kg dumbbells

132 shoulder taps (wall-facing HS)

12:30

Shoulders are still dead from yesterday's C&J and Snatch and all the other shoulder hell. I had to break both the jerks and the shoulder taps into 5 segments. But hey I got there...

As rx'd, 11:41.

Wow, I've been at this 10+ years, and WODs like these still surprise me. The jerks were way worse than they sounded (broke 22-11-11-11-11), and they in turn made the HS walk awful. Not just shoulders (expected), but lower back (unexpected), which made it harder to stay arched (global extension) and stable when inverted. Good shit.

I would like to see a text description of the mechanics involved in these moves. What joints are rigid and which hinge? Should my feet be shoulder/hip width apart?

I'd really like to see it broken down like the movements in the level 1 manual, but I expect that's more geared towards coaches and not just geeks :D

Haven’t been to a box yet, only using equipment at my clubhouse gym to get feel for it, love it so far, variety is great.

Question: When the WOD is over at a box in less than 20 minutes is there more offered in group work?

Comment URL copied!
Bennett Novak
August 2nd, 2019 at 9:24 pm

A lot of boxes don’t follow mainsite, but generally yes. If a wod is only 15-20 mins or less then you can expect to fill the rest of an hour with group warmup, maybe a game, skills practice, or hitting some heavy lifts.

Champions Club Scaling Notes:

RANT:

The Games Week workouts are always challenging for me to include in my gym because they're giving us pieces of a bigger cake - which, I guess they do anyway in the grand scheme, but this is a smaller cake. So the challenge is looking beyond the movements and rep scheme and try to see what is trying to be accomplished here. In this one, I see the purpose being to see who really has their handstand walks down. A sprint on the row, an offensive number of kb reps that make your shoulders scream. Then go ahead and flip upside down for me.

I SHOULD TRY THIS RX'D IF: I am in front of a ton of people and there's a judge next to me. Or I want to see how I stack up with those people.

GROUP VERSION: Reverse order. 3:00 handstand walk practice, 3:00 kettlebell/dumbbell push jerk practice. Then an 800m sprint for time.

INJURY SCALE (BASED ON GROUP VERSION):

Upper body injury - 3-point plank sub for hs walk, one-arm push jerks.

Middle body injury - regular plank, strict press, then run/row/bike

Lower body injury - if this means you can't bike/row for intensity, then cut it out and just do 6 minutes of hs walk practice and 6 minutes of kettlebell/dumbbell push jerk practice

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WORKING OUT IN FOREVER VERSION: I think this will be fine, honestly. The HS walks are really scalable and the time caps on hs walk and push jerk help.

WARMUP:

Jump rope - always

Kettlebell swing - I honestly thought this is what it said at first, and I had to rewrite that sentence in the RANT.

Kip - overhead prep with some global extension

[insert thing you suck at]

GENERAL FEAR LEVEL: 7. This one could be worse, though.

I love it when you turn a workout into actual training.

Much better for the recreational crosfitter.

Basem, wait till the fall. Once college football starts you will regret calling me the sensible one.

Also, the workouts are listed for the fittest human beings on the planet. If I were among them, this workout would be just fine as listed. And when I say "just fine," I mean absolutely miserable.

Globo scale: So I am again posting a sanctionals scaling first again, then the Globo scale. Sanctionals pro as rxed. Rxed division: 75 ft he walk, as rx for other componets. Intermediate: 44 push press, 50 ft hs walk. Scaled 33 push press at rxed weight, then 150 ft double overhead kettlebell carry. Beginner 12/8 kg kbs, 150ft double overhead kettlebell carry. Time cap 8 minutes. Wodapalooza division standards.

Globo scale: if you have 2 kettlebells, try this as rxed based on the scaling above. If you have a short distance, do the hs walk or overhead carry in 10 feet increments (3 meters). Subs for hs walk include wall walks (1 per 10 foot sistance), overhead carry or handstand hold for 3 minutes cumulative. Subs for row are 1k run or 50 calorie assault bike or Echo Bike.

If you are in Madison I will be floating around the Games. I will be in Granite Games or Wodapalooza gear for the most part.
