The ankle joint is comprised of two long bones — the tibia and the fibula — as well as underlying tarsal bones. There are seven tarsal bones in each foot. In total, the ankle allows the foot to move in six different ways: dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion, eversion, and medial and lateral rotation.

The researchers intended to use biomarkers to assess dairy fat intake to overcome the known reliability issues in dietary recall data. Assessed in total, the three high dietary fat consumption levels were associated with reduced risk of T2D, with the difference between the top and bottom quintiles reflecting a 29% reduction. While numerous caveats to the study render it non-definitive, the results encourage further study into the impacts of dairy fat consumption on glucose–insulin metabolism and patients with T2D.
